About This Image
Mounted, with photographers wet stamp "Le Dien et Gustave Le Gray", "Pompeï" and "Entrée de la Maison des Chapiteaux Figurés" inscribed in pencil on mount, the n°20 reversed out of the photograph in Le Gray's hand. The year 1853 is largely unaccounted for in the material surrounding Le Gray's activities, and it is surmised that he worked in Italy with Le Dien during this time. The prints are almost certainly by Le Gray.
Under excavation from 1831 until 1833, the ruin took its name from the beautiful heads of Fauna and Bacchante, which are carved on the capitals of the pilasters of the front door.
Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania buyers must pay appropriate local sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
