Henry Martyn was the son of the famous missionary of India, Dr. John Scudder and was born in India. Henry attended medical school in New York and then studied at the Union Theological Seminary. He married Fannie Lewis in New York in 1844. Shortly thereafter, he returned to India as a missionary and co-founded the Arcot Mission in 1853 with his brothers.
