This piece is extremely rare--there are very few examples of round daguerreotypes. The work is also very early and is in its original paper mat and hand-carved wooden frame. The frame is possibly from 1870-1880. Framed daguerreotypes were far more common in Europe than in the United States.
The clothing style of the sitters in this piece suggest that they may be Italian.
