About This Image

Signed and inscribed by Norris in white ink on the image with a period typed credit to Genthe. Genthe did an extensive portrait series of Charles and Kathleen Norris, which is largely housed at the Smithsonian Museum. Kathleen Thompson Norris, born July 16, 1880, was an American novelist. She worked for several San Francisco newspapers before marrying Charles Norris in 1909 and moving to New York, which is where this photo was probably taken. They returned to California in the 1920s. She wrote primarily novels, but also short stories and one play. She is best known for her book "Mother," 1911; her 82 novels sold over 10 million copies. She even had a park in Mill Valley, CA named in her honor. During the teens and twenties, Norris was one of the highest paid women in America. She died in either 1960 or 1966. She was a fountain of quotable quotes; for instance: "There are men I would spend eternity with, but not in this life." "When you are unhappy, is there anything more maddening than to be told that you should be contented with your lot?" "Changing husbands is only changing troubles." "From birth to age 18, a girl needs good parents. From 18 to 35, she needs good looks. From 35 to 55, a woman needs personality. And from 55 on, the old lady needs cash."

Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania buyers must pay appropriate local sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
