About This Image
Duschek was Karl Szathmari's assistant and was the official photographer for Romania during the Romanian War of Independence (1877-1888). He had a studio in Budapest apparently. These studies bring the Szathmari studio full circle, because Szarthmari is credited with being one of the first photographers to document war (in the Crimea). There are 21 images including a cabinet card portrait by Szathmari (or his studio). The images largely are at the military camp at Rusciuck, Bulgaria. They show various officers, including General Richter, and some scenics. Images range from a battle with men shooting rifles with their dead comrades around them (this does not look posed) to a dinner tent for officers to a cannon crews to a military band.
