In this group of portraits we see the artistic, yet honest, eye for which Southworth & Hawes were highly regarded trained on the likenesses of Hawes' family: his daughter, Alice Hawes (top image - cabinet card); his wife, Nancy S. Hawes (2 middle images, 1 cabinet card and 1 CDV); and his son, Edward Southworth Hawes (CDV).
These photographs originally come from Edward, who was the custodian of the remaining Hawes family photographs.
All are embossed with a photo studio stamp from 19 Tremont Row, Boston, and are labeled on the verso by hand with sitter's names.
