About This Image

Ed, the subject, is Native American—specifically a member of the Navajo Nation. His faraway gaze, and the unnaturally bright red sky behind him, add not only a sense of pride, but a near-ominous, enigmatic quality to the piece. Hand coloring was added during the process of making the image, which resulted in a rich Cibachrome that juxtaposes the strengths of both b&w and color.
