Kallay was born on April 26, 1926 in Cadca, Czech Republic.
Active in photography from the 1940s, he became a noted fashion photographer, filmmaker and photojournalist, based out of Bratislava. He was well traveled, photographing in the U.S., Hungary, Russia, Mexico, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Austria, France, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Syria, Italy, and Yugoslavia.
In 1968 Stern magazine chose some of his work to be included in its "2nd World Exhibition of Photography: Woman". He is mentioned in the International Center of Photography's Encyclopedia of Photography.
