About This Image

Three children cluster together at waters' edge, the sun glinting brightly off the water in middle foreground. An interesting composition, in which we see the vast water contrasted with the bent-over bodies of the children, intent on some activity in the center, drawing focus.

Written in pencil on verso: "Snap at Riverside/ N Ishikawa." Additional markings on verso, most likely publication/cropping guidelines.

A fine Japanese Pictorialist, Ishikawa hailed from Fokuoka in western Japan, and graduated from the prestigious Tokyo University. He was an industrialist by profession (in mining), and earned a good fortune in the field.
