Former portrait painter Britt arrived in southern Oregon in 1852, and over the next 50 odd years produced a wonderfully rich record of all aspects of frontier life in this region. Starting wirh daguerreotypes and ambrotypes, he moved in 1858 to using collodion wet plates and later to gelatin dry plates.
