About This Image

It is especially rare that this is a photograph by a female photographer

1/2-plate in cased frame

Partial Studio label on Case Lid, the entirety of which would read "Dai-Nippon Okayama-ken Tsuyama Oikai." Dai Nippon: honorific term for Japan; Okayama prefecture, Tsuyama City; district of Okai.

Inscription on case lid reads "Meiji '21, gogatsu jusan-nichi, Oikai nite, Taguchi Shashin-jo, satsue, Magoma kin" Translation: "1888, May 13, at Oikai, photo was taken by Taguchi of Magoma Kin." Magoma is the woman's surnmae, and her given name is Kin. The red stamp under the inscription is the Magome family hanko or stamp.
