About This Image
The print was made for an exhibition of images being considered for the Pulitzer Prize. It ran with in the New York Daily News with the caption: A black thorn on his arm, Mike Quill waits for admittance to Mayor O'Dwyer's office. He was kept waiting for half an hour. The TWU chief hailed transit strike settlement as realization of everything for which his union had fought. Said Mayor O'Dwyer, "There was no compromise."
This and other Daily News photographers won the Pulitzer Prize for Photography in 1956.
