Mary Blume writes in the February 28, 2007 issue of the New York Times, "The major step in his career came in 1956 when he was doing his U.S. Army service in Paris and met a 92-year-old woman hobbling up rue Lépic. She became the subject of his "Widow of Montmartre" series. Provenance: Andre Jammes collection.
