Freshly gathered diakon are bundled and draped over a wooden frame in a beautiful display of a recent harvest.
Very little is known about the Osaka-based photographer, Toda, except that he was active in the 1930's and early '40's and worked at a stationary shop called, Marui Yoshi Ten (Marui Western Paper Stationer). The NEW YORKER lauds his style, calling it, "delicately restrained modernism" (May 5, 2008).
This print comes with a vintage contact print of the same image.
