The auction house Artcurial will hold a photography auction on Monday, April 25 at 8 pm at the company's elegant offices in the Hotel Dassault, 7-9 Rond-Point des Champs-Elysées, 75008 Paris, France. The 213 lots will span the history of photography from Maxime Du Camp to William Eggleston. Viewing hours are Friday, April 22 to Sunday, April 24 from 11 am to 6 pm and Monday, April 25 from 11 am to 3 pm.
Some of the featured lots include:
--A portrait of French tennis champion Suzanne Lenglen by Jacques Henri Lartigue, circa 1925, which is thought to be a unique vintage silver print on post card stock, with a letter from Lartigue to Lenglen on the verso. Estimated at 10 000-12 000 euros.
--A set of more than 20 important images of the horse, including photographs from Tournachon, Tournier, Fenton, and even William Eggleston.
--A set of more than 110 glass negatives from H. Bechard, circa 1869-1880, which will be sold in three lots (estimated at 15 000-20 000 euros per lot).
--117 salt paper prints from Egypte, Nubie, Palestine, Syrie, by Du Camp. A near complete set in fine condition. The group is being sold in lots of one to four prints.
--The complete set of five volumes of Le Nouvel Opéra de Paris, by Charles Garnier, 1875-1880. Two of the volumes are illustrated with 115 albumen prints by Durandelle, reportedly in perfect condition. The estimate is 50 000-70 000 euros.
--Two rare Gustave Le Gray seascapes.
--A fine negative print or photogram by Maurice Tabard titled, "Jardin des Modes".
--Vintage prints by Kertesz, Ronis and other Parisian photographers of the 1920s-1950s.
--A rare vintage print of the Baiser de l’Hotel de Ville, by Doisneau. This print comes from Françoise Bornet (the woman in the picture), who received it from Doisneau just a few days after "posing" for this iconic photograph.
