Bonhams & Butterfields Auctioneers and Appraisers will be offering 143 photographs in its upcoming seasonal Fine Prints and Photographs Auction on October 22 starting at 10 am. Previews are scheduled at the San Francisco gallery for October 17-19 from 10 am to 5 pm.
Among the photographs are notable names such as Ansel Adams, Robert Mapplethrope, Edward Curtis, and Jock Sturges. Ansel Adams' photographs of the natural wonders of the West will be displayed with other travel photography, including a collection of 50 hand-colored photographs of Japan and set of 12 photographs of Burma made in 1855 by Captain Linnaeus Tripe. Other lots include Gisele Freund's photographs of Frida Kalho and a complete set of 12 hand-colored cabinet cards of well-known Indians by F. Jay Haynes, the chief photographer for Yellowstone National Park.
