James Thrall Soby embraced the camera in 1933. Lincoln Kirstein arranged for Walker Evans to tutor Soby in his Connecticut home and he quickly became an accomplished photographer. Soby and Evans spent time traveling together through out the United States. During these trips as well as others, Soby photographed the architecture in small towns as well as famous artists who he knew personally. He later became a respected art collector and an influential scholar and critic. In addition, he was a curator and trustee at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and, during the 1940's, at the Museum of Modern Art.Please contact the gallery for a quote on shipping and insurance costs.
