DESCRIPTION:No photographer's imprint, but was originally a daguerreotype by Mathew Brady. He took numerous photographs of Buchanan as President (see the Library of Congress for the original daguerreotype version of this image, dags #225 and 428). All salt print images are scarce, especially of a famous or well known subject, such as the President of the United States. The image is in excellent condition, and not "light" as most often seen with this early form of photography. The mount has some age and a very light water mark at the right top corner, which does not touch the image. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
