DESCRIPTION:Angus McBean was a master of costume, prop, special effects, and, as we see here, mise-en-scene. This portrait of an unidentified sitter in drag, holding a baby, has all the earmarks of McBean's exacting standards--with no detail untouched by him. It's also proof that drag was a subject within this homosexual artist's purview. He approaches it with a compelling mixture of professional seriousness and camp.
