Stamp "Photograph by Consuelo Kanaga" and notation "Rothko/1955" in an unknown hand on verso, along with a notation to "Return to Lerner-Heller Gallery" (her first gallery). While the date says 1955 probably in the gallery's hand, there is at least one other print at the Brooklyn Museum of Art that is said to be from 1951. The photograph here does not black light and looks a bit earlier, perhaps even from the 1940s, adding credence to an earlier dating than the scribbled 1955 on the verso. A very strong print presence, and the image evokes all the complexity that this artist did himself when he was alive.
