DESCRIPTION:

This large collection includes photographs by a professional African-American photographer of the Philippines. Notable photograph of a gun tripod in a forest, surrounded by bones of the soldiers who perished using it. Verso reads: "These three guys were not as fortunate as we were JAT . Do you think you could use that tripod?" Second notable photograph of the photographer's cameras and dark room equipment, a rare sight.
Philippines locations include: Mabeni - Batangus; San Fernando - Pampanga; Mangaldan - Pangasinan. Views of locals and military presence in small villages, bullet-marked and bombed-out official buildings in small cities and military planes (crashed Japanese Zero plane and American P 51 Mustang). These photographs are inscribed on verso with correspondence written to a friend and fellow photographer (referred to at John or J.A.T)
Images of military training camps in US by same professional photographer. Portraits of black soldiers and views of the facilities. Camps include: Camp Stoneman - Pittsburg CA; Fort Meclennan - Alabama.
Images by a soldier and amateur photographer of military training camps and portraits of soldiers in the US - notably Camp Stoneman, Fort Mcelennan and Camp Mcgovern.

Tourist snapshots of the San Francisco and Oakland area of California taken by the same amateur photographer, presumably while he was training at the military camp.

Additional anonymous photographs of African American soldiers.

Judging from the dates inscribed on verso, the two photographers were present at the US training camps in the same time period, and most probably knew each other.

This collection could be the subject of extensive research. Comes with 5 real photo postcards from the PhilippinesPlease contact the gallery for a quote on shipping and insurance costs.
