Léon Gimpel (1873-1948) was a photographer whose work was a mixture of artistic vision and keen sense of photojournalism. Working between 1904 and 1907, Gimpel was one of the pioneers using the Autochrome color process,. He worked in close collaboration with the Lumiere brothers. His photographs were published at the time in the newspaper "L'Illustration", for which he worked for nearly 30 years. Léon Gimpel's work offers a unique glimpse into the daily life of Paris during the Belle Epoque and includes the advent of electric neon lighting, which lit up the capital at night.
