Photographer's stamp and caption on verso. With Agfa single word logo on verso. Bernard Pierre Wolff was born on November 26, 1930 in Connerre, France. He was Henri Langlois's assistant at the Cinémathèque Française and left Paris for New York in 1958. His work consisted primarily of portraits, landscapes and street scenes and often included an element of mystery to push the viewer to create a story around the image. In 1974 he studied under Charles Harbutt, and--in his own words --"suddenly understood how to take a picture." His pictures were published in the New York Times, the Herald Tribune, Modern Photography, Zoom, Photo, and Photo Magazine. His first book, "Friends and Friends of Friends", was published in 1978, which was followed by two more books: "En Inde", in 1982 and "New York Macadam" in 1984. During his life he photographed throughout much of Europe, India, Africa, South America and Japan. He died of AIDS on January 28 of 1985. The Espace Photographique de Paris organized a tribute exhibition in 1986. His work is in the collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris. He is included in the International Center of Photography Encyclopedia of Photography and the Macmillan Biographical Encyclopedia of Photographic Artists & Innovators.Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer.
