Vintage Works Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary with Special Catalog

Vintage Works was launched as a sole proprietorship in October 1997 and incorporated the following year. To celebrate its 20th year in business, the company is publishing a full-color, 108-page catalogue with 110 special photographs for sale, spanning the history of the medium in most of its major formats, from daguerreotypes and calotypes to color contemporary work. Some are drawn from the owner's personal collection from 20 years ago.

Vintage Works, Ltd. is composed of two working divisions: Contemporary Works and Vintage Works. Alex Novak is the sole owner of the company, and also owns the E-Photo Newsletter and the I Photo Central website.

Contemporary Works is a by-appointment contemporary dealer, which specializes in contemporary art photography, including mixed-media pieces, large-scale color photographs, black and white contemporary photography, and contemporary daguerreotypes and other alternative processes.

Vintage Works is a by-appointment private photography dealer, which specializes in vintage images printed close to the time the original photograph was created.

These divisions of Vintage Works, Ltd. sell important 19th, 20th and 21st-century photography in every medium with an inventory of 5,000 photographs from nearly 2,000 photographers.

Novak himself has 42 years experience in the photography-collecting arena. The company is a long-time member of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD). Novak's photographic background includes two stints as a commercial photographer. He has been a long-time member of the Daguerreian Society, serving on its board and directing the Society's 2016 19th-century Photography Show and Conference, and its pre-conference program on 19th-century Processes and Contemporary Photography.

Novak has been a member of the board of the non-profit Photo Review, which publishes both the Photo Review and the Photograph Collector, and is currently on its advisory board.

Novak has published numerous photography articles and columns in several newspapers, the Photograph Collector, Focus magazine, and the Daguerreian Society Newsletter. He has been interviewed extensively for profiles on his companies by Photographie Internationale, Photo District News (PDN), Black & White magazine and Photography New York (now Photography).

He also writes and publishes the E-Photo Newsletter, the largest circulation newsletter in the field, with a total distribution of 15,000 readers. He is CEO of the company that owns the multi-dealer I Photo Central web site. He researched and wrote the recent book/catalogue, "19th-Century French Master Photographers: Life into Art."

Novak has been quoted on photography and the market by numerous publications, webzines, books and blogs, including New York Art magazine, Photo District News (PDN), Art Critical, Art Business News, the Art Newspaper, Focus magazine, Black & White magazine, the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, Maine Antique Digest, Antiques & the Arts Online and the Photograph Collector.
