The Photo Review, a critical journal of photography, will hold its Annual Benefit Auction on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 4 pm at Freeman's Auctioneers at 1808 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, PA. Two hundred and fifty lots will be auctioned off.

The event will feature an international slate of photographers as well as a host of Philadelphia artists. Beginning and experienced collectors alike will have the opportunity to bid on work by such historic masters as Werner Bischof, Karl Blossfeldt, Édouard Boubat, Cornell Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward S. Curtis, Robert Doisneau, Godfrey Frankel, Hans Hajek-Halke, Gertrude Käsebier, Willy Kessels, Heinrich Kühn, Clarence John Laughlin, Russell Lee, Constantine Manos, Leonard Misonne, Barbara Morgan, Herb Ritts, Arthur Rothstein, Giorgio Sommer, and Jack Welpott.

Among the contemporary photo stars whose work will go on the block are Sally Apfelbaum, Lucien Clergue, Mitch Dobrowner, Chris Earnshaw, Larry Fink, Jill Freedman, Lois Greenfield, Henry Horenstein, Elaine Ling, Rania Matar, Susan Meiselas, Joe Mills, Jeffrey Milstein, Aline Smithson, Catherine Steinmann, George Tice, Philip Trager and Hiroshi Watanabe.

Featured local luminaries include Susan Abrams, Noah Addis, Theo Anderson, Andrea Baldeck, Rita Bernstein, Howard Brunner, Charmaine Caire, Paul Cava, Paula Chamlee, Vincent David Feldman, Alida Fish, Judy Gelles, David Graham, David Haas, Jessica Todd-Harper, Catherine Jansen, Richard Kagan, Bruce Katsiff, Peter Miraglia, Wendy Paton, Amie Potsic, Laurence Salzmann, Tom Shillea, Leif Skoogfors, Michael A. Smith, Anna Tas and Christine Welch.

In addition, a broad range of 19th-century and vernacular photographs is up for bid. According to Photo Review editor Stephen Perloff, prices will range from $50 to $7,000.

A silent auction, concurrent with the live auction, will feature photography and computer equipment and software, inkjet paper, restaurant meals, museum memberships, theater tickets, books, jewelry, etc.

Freeman's is Philadelphia's premier auction house and the nation's oldest. Lodima Archival Materials has provided matting for Photo Review auction items.

A preview will be held at Freeman's on Thursday and Friday, October 25 and 26, from 10 am to 4:30 pm, and on Saturday, October 27 from 11 am to 3 pm, just prior to the auction. Proceeds from the auction, a popular event since 1983, fund such activities as an annual juried competition for emerging photographers.
