DESCRIPTION:An extremely early daguerreotype, dated September 1840, that was made just one year after Daguerre's announcement of the process. This is one of the only known daguerreotypes and the earliest image of the Chateau. Except for a band of tarnish, probably from an earlier broken glass cover plate, which has been expertly replaced some time ago, the plate is in very fine condition. Provenance: Gilbert Gimon collection (Gimon "discovered" Humbert de Mollard and Itier); Ken Apollo; John Wood.
