DESCRIPTION:This particular copy was originally owed by the important amateur photographer Edouard Delessert, who initialed the first number and marked several sections in pencil. To our knowledge only the George Eastman House and the Gernsheim collection at the University of Texas at Austin have copies of this early volume in the U.S. After a year the initial publishing firm went bankrupt and the publication was restarted later, and published in the second iteration from December 1851 through to 1860. This early 1851 volume is extremely rare and apparently less than two dozen copies of this important publication still exist--virtually all in institutions, primarily in French institutions. It ran from 9 February to 29 October, 1851. The table of contents in this copy perhaps makes this a unique version. No other copy with the table of contents is known. Hand marbled boards with some light chipping at edges, drying leather spine, but inside pages are in fine condition. A very good copy indeed. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
